Celina Collazo, who was employed as an accounts receivable specialist for the New Castle Building Products on Old Tarrytown Road in Greenburgh, was arraigned this week on charges claiming that she ran a scheme to steal cash payments for nearly three years.
Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr., said that as part of her employment, Collazo, a Bronx resident, was responsible for receiving customer payments, posting receipts to the appropriate customer's accounts, preparing deposits to be brought to the bank, and reviewing checks to be deposited.
According to Scarpino, as part of her scheme, Collazo stole cash payments made by customers, and then attempted to cover up the theft by entering fabricated checks and inflated check amounts into the company’s accounting system. From July 2014 through March last year, Collazo stole $225,450.72.
Collazo was arrested and charged with a felony count of grand larceny. Bail has been set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. She is due to appear in Greenburgh Town Court on Oct. 4 to answer the charges.
